Terminology for the number of channels (218)

In the framework, there are defined many parameters related to the number of channels. This ticket intends to clarify the used terminology and possibly revisit the naming in order to make them consistent.

  • nchan_input = number of codec input channels, [1-16]
  • nchan_transport = number of transport channels, equal to the number of core-coders [1-12]
  • nchan_internal = number of internal channels after the decoding and before rendering (?)
  • nchan_remapped - ?
  • nchan_output = number of codec output channels [1-16]
  • nchan_in - a general term
  • nchan_out - a general term
  • nchan - duplication or a general term
  • num_ch - duplication or a general term
  • num_channels - duplication or a general term
  • dmx_ch - a general term
  • ?? = number of metadata channels [1-8]

In the SBA format, there is used a number of metadata channels as a result of the function ivas_sba_get_nchan_metadata(). The name of this parameter is used chaotically and might benefit from a revision.

Please comment and add/change the description to the list of parameters above!
