This is the BASOP main sibling of !2381 (merged). The BASOP framework has float code on the affected lines, so the fix is identical to the float fix.

This is a temporary fix for #2088 (closed). The fix will come in a later porting of the JBM+split rendering. @sagnowski, would it be ok to merge this temporary fix to resolve the MSAN error? It may cause a small conflict with the porting work that you are doing.
