Resolve "Develop main branch CI build and tests"

Related to #30 (closed). Refactors .gitlab-ci.yml to accommodate for main branch pipelines, both on push and scheduled. Implements also placeholder for the long sanitiser tests in issue #62 (closed) as suggested by @kiene . This also touches #32 (closed) on the part of adding generic print for information.
